Program Overview
The Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program provides quality summer experiences that build a pipeline to career opportunities for local youth ages 13-24. The focus of the summer employment program is to expose participants to careers of interest with the intention of creating a career ready workforce. Youth will earn while they gain experience to define their career goals.

What: Meet with personal finance professionals. Hear about their careers and what their daily work is like. Students will be able to pose questions and speak with them. This is for students interested in Business, Finance, Entrepreneurship, etc.

Carnegie Mellon is committed to providing access opportunities to populations of students who have been historically underrepresented in the STEM and Computer Science fields. We materialize this support through our Summer Academy for Math and Science, AI4All @ Carnegie Mellon, and our new Computer Science Scholars program offerings.
program provides students who are traditionally under-represented in the field of computer science an opportunity to receive exposure to computing and additional computer science pre-requisites. There are no tuition, housing or dining fees for students selected to attend this program.
The curricula of these programs include a combination of hands-on learning and research via projects, and lectures by Carnegie Mellon faculty, teachers and graduate students. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in extracurricular activities that introduce them to new people, topics, and career opportunities. College students also serve as classroom assistants, tutors and mentors.
is a six-week residential experience that provides students from underrepresented communities who have interest in engineering and/or the natural sciences, with the opportunity to achieve skills in order to pursue and complete majors in STEM fields. The Louisiana Center for College Access (LCCA) provides free college readiness and preparedness services to students and families from Louisiana.

Available to attend daily live VYFI training session via Zoom, complete required remote assignments via Google Classroom (June), and work ~20 hours per week at their internship placement (July)

The Ochsner STAR Summer Scholars Program is now accepting applications for Summer 2021.
The Ochsner STAR Program provides qualified high school students, particularly those with limited means and access, a cost-free opportunity to explore the world of healthcare. Through a rigorous, hands-on summer course focusing on science, technology, academics, and research, STAR aims to engage and inspire students to pursue further education and careers in science and medicine.
All components of the application are due Friday, March 12th by 11:59 PM.
Program Details
The Ochsner STAR Program will take place at Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans from June 7th – July 2nd, 2021.
COVID - 19 Response Plan: Safety is our top priority. Please note, that the STAR Administration Team is ready to pivot the summer program as needed. The structure for summer 2021 will be determined closer to the program dates. We are prepared to offer the program virtually, in-person, or through a hybrid model. Although the structure may differ, the overall goals of the program will remain the same.
Program Eligibility
Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of the program, June 7th, 2021.
Open to students advancing into 12th grade (graduating seniors are not eligible).
There is no minimum grade point average (GPA) or ACT/SAT score.
Louisiana residents will be given priority selection for the STAR Program.
